Babyshambles finally play V Festival Stafford

Babyshambles finally played the Stafford leg of V Festival 2007 tonight (August 19) - taking the stage four hours late.

For once though Pete Doherty was not to blame for the delay as his band were held up by traffic and so organisers swapped their slot on the Channel 4 Stage for headlining the Virgin Mobile Union tent.

Arriving onstage bang on 10pm, Doherty sprayed the crowd with beer before launching into forthcoming single 'Delivery'.

Dressed in a leather jacket and hat that made him look strangely like Indiana Jones, the frontman then led his band into 'Pipedown' without uttering a word.

Finally breaking his silence, Doherty philosophically contemplated the route his career has taken lately.

"I remember the days when they used to throw nice things like rosaries and crucifixes," he told the crowd. "Now it's all bottles of piss."

Playing 2006 single 'The Blinding', the band then took the tent by surprise cutting straight into a cover of The Clash's 'Jennie Jones', the track they recorded for Joe Strummer memorial charity Strummerville.

The band later previewed 'Baddies Boogie' from forthcoming album 'Shotter's Nation'.

'Albion' quickly followed, with the audience again in strong voice, after which Doherty belatedly told the crowd "we're Babyshambles, by the way."

With fate promoting them to one of the festival's headliners, Babyshambles finished off their suitably rousing fashion, exploding with 'Fuck Forever', which Doherty ended by demolishing the drum kit before calmly sipping his beer and leaving the stage.
Linkin Park hits top of Billboard chart

Linkin Park have scored this year's best-selling album on the US Billboard charts with 'Minutes To Midnight'.

Hitting the Number One spot this week with 623,000 copies sold, it is the highest-selling album of 2007 in its debut week, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The last album to sell more copies the first week of its release was Jay-Z's 'Kingdom Come', which sold 680,000 copies last December.

As previously reported, Linkin Park have recruited My Chemical Romance and Placebo to headline their Project Revolution tour throughout North America this summer.
